Qatar population booms as economy grows attracting expats |

Qatar’s population has more than doubled since 2004 according to preliminary results in the state’s census.
Around 1.69 million people live in Qatar compared to 2004 when the population was 774,000. The boom in population is attributed to the influx of Western expats who are hoping to benefit from the growing economy. Figures show that the native population is just 200,000.
The state is set to largely outperform its fellow oil producers in the Arab Gulf in coming years, helped by expansion of its gas facilities and generous government infrastructure spending.
According to the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning Qatar’s population could expand to 3 million by 2026.
