Wednesday 21st July 2010

Asian markets rose in Wednesday trading as investor were given confidence by strong earnings from Apple and China announcing that they may roll back policy-tightening measures later this year.

The euro also rose ahead of the results of the European bank stress tests which will be announced on Friday.

The South Korean Kospi rose 0.6% boosted by Samsung which gained after strong results from Apple. Weak revenue growth reported by some other big US companies over the last week fuelled fears that its economic recovery was losing momentum.

Apple shares jumped more than 3% in after-hours trade, which could help US stocks to their third straight day of gains on Wednesday.
