Apple has sold over a million iPads in the first four weeks of sale in the US, showing just how in demand the new tablet is with consumers.
The iPad is now one of Apple’s most successful ever products as it only took 28 days to sell a million units with 300,000 being purchased on the launch day. The iPhone took 74 days to sell a million units.
Apple said last month it would delay the international roll-out of the iPad as it struggled to keep up with demand. International pre-orders will begin next week.
Users had complained that the 3G connection used in the US compromised quality when streaming videos, or it would not let them use some apps. However, Apple believe the iPad to be a success with 12 million apps downloaded from the iStore for the app. The company also says that 1.5 million eBooks have been downloaded, putting it in direct competition with Amazon’s Kindle.
Apple shares rose $5.36, or 2%, to $266.45 in late New York trade on Monday.
