Alternative Assets

  Any alternative assets in simple terms refers to any non-traditional, and often non-correlated, asset with potential investment value that would not be found in a standard investment portfolio. For most people, examples of alternative assets would include movie & TV production, art and antiques, precious metals, fine wines, rare stamps and coins, and other collectibles such as sports cards. However, to the very wealthy, hedge funds, venture capital-related projects and infrastructure could be alternative assets. Many respected investment professionals have forecasted that returns from traditional asset classes, such as shares, will not be as high over the next decade as they were in the last. This expectation, combined with billions of dollars in superannuation funds and increasing investor sophistication has seen investment in alternative assets become one of the fastest growing sectors in the global investment arena.
