Shyrdaks are traditional wool rugs which have been created by nomadic tribes in the Kyrgyzstan mountains for more than two and a half thousand years. They have a tough flattened felt base sewn in with geometric patterns.
Although these rugs have been created for more than two millennia, Felt is the first UK company to import these luxury works directly from Kyrgyzstan.
Shyrdaks can come in vibrant tones including reds, hot pinks, bright blues and emerald greens. Alternatively, you can opt for the timeless grace of neutrals. Neutral rugs are made using only the naturally occurring colours in the sheep wool, with no dyes or treatments. Ranging from browns and greys through to cream, they form infinitely subtle and beautiful backdrops for elegant interiors.
Felt’s rugs have full Kyrgyz government accreditation and the compnay is committed to ethical commerce. In addition to paying a fair price, Felt also returns an additional 5% of the UK selling price to support the wider Shyrdak making community in Kyrgyzstan.
Rug sizes range from small (0.8m x 1m) to room sized (2m x 3.5m) and larger. Prices start from £280. Special commissions can be undertaken. Felt’s Shyrdak rugs are currently found in the Soho Hotel (pictured).
